Queen of Angels Foundation Sets 2011 Grand Marian Procession for Saturday, September 3rd to Celebrate 230th Anniversary of Founding and Dedication of Los Angeles

A colorful outdoor Grand Marian Procession in downtown Los Angeles to celebrate and commemorate the 230th anniversary of the founding and dedication of the City of Los Angeles to Our Lady of the Angels is scheduled for Saturday, September 3rd, 2011, announced Mark Anchor Albert, chairman of the Queen of Angels Foundation, the non-profit organization which is sole organizer of the first-time event in Los Angeles. The 2011 Grand Marian Procession commences at 3:00 PM at Mission Nuestra Senora Reina de Los Angeles (La Placita) at 535 N. Main Street, LA (downtown Los Angeles? oldest continuously operating Roman Catholic church), and will process to the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels for a 4:30 PM Rosary and a 5:00 PM Votive Mass presided over by Msgr. Kevin Kostelnik, pastor of The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angeles.
The 2011 Grand Marian Procession, designed in the large-scale international tradition of public outdoor celebrations of the Blessed Mother, brings together the Catholic faithful from the 55 different cultural communities of the Southland along with representatives from several prominent international lay Catholic service organizations, including the Knights and Dames of Malta, Knights of St. Lazarus, Knights of Columbus, Knights of St. Gregory, Knights and Ladies of Peter Claver and Knights and Ladies of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre.
Members of the Queen of Angels Foundation and other lay Catholic orders and participants will pay tribute in full regalia to Our Lady of the Angels in their first annual European-style procession, with a processional crucifix, a beautiful statue of Our Lady in a processional carriage, flowers, banners, flags, color guards, bagpipers, and more.
The 2011 Grand Marian Procession revives a tradition of public Marian processions in Los Angeles to celebrate the founding and dedication of Los Angeles to Mary, Queen of Angels that has been dormant for nearly 150 years.
Mark Anchor Albert, event organizer and chairman of the Queen of Angels Foundation comments: ?This 2011 Marian Procession, in the grand European style of public outdoor celebrations to honor The Blessed Mother, revives a tradition here in Los Angeles since the founding of Los Angeles in 1781. It has a 5-fold purpose: First, it will unite Catholics of the Southland with the practice of the church in every age and country; secondly, it will serve as an act of faith and fidelity to the wishes of the current and recent popes; third, it will serve as an affirmation of the glorious local Catholic heritage of the Southland; fourth, it will bring together in unity and diversity all of the varied backgrounds and nationalities of the Archdiocese; fifth, it will mark our willingness to dedicate ourselves to the New Evangelization of our native places.?

Tour Scotland video shot this afternoon of the Kate Kennedy Procession in St Andrews, Fife, Scotland. The procession in Market Street, St Andrews, led by the City of St Andrews Pipe Band. The Kate Kennedy Procession is the main event of the Kate Kennedy Club and the one around which the Club was founded. Each year both Town and Gown assemble to form a crowd of hundreds on the streets of St. Andrews to celebrate the lives and contributions of some of the great men and women of the town and university. The procession has a long history but its organisation by the Kate Kennedy Club has ensured that it is a great tradition in the life of the town, a special day for town and gown alike.
